Gloria's Gift: Finding Healing in Unexpected Connections

As we approached the enclosure, we called out Gloria's name. In the distance, a rustling sound emerged, and with a surprising burst of enthusiasm, Gloria trotted over to us, her movements more akin to an excited dog than the stereotypical slow-moving pig. Gloria, a magnificent Cornish Black pig, has become Cabilla’s superstar with her curiosity and the gentle nudge of her snout as you scratch her ears, reminding us of the profound connection possible between humans and animals when we open our hearts.

Lessons from a Pig: Presence & Acceptance

Science has long recognised the profound impact animals can have on human emotional well-being. But Gloria was something special. Unlike clinical therapy animals, she existed in her own space – unapologetically herself, completely present, devoid of judgment. For women navigating the complex terrains of midlife, her presence is nothing short of magical.

Gloria teaches us something remarkable about vulnerability. She doesn't try to be anything other than exactly who she is. In a world that constantly demands women to shape-shift, adapt, and conform, Gloria stands as a testament to the power of radical self-acceptance. Her very existence becomes a metaphor for embracing ourselves – rolls, wrinkles, imperfections and all and we absolutely love this about her.

Gloria, unapologetically herself.

The Science of Animal Connection

Research shows that interactions with animals can:

  • Reduce cortisol levels (our stress hormone)

  • Lower blood pressure

  • Increase oxytocin (the connection hormone)

  • Provide a sense of calm and emotional regulation

But Gloria transcends these clinical definitions. She offers something more profound – a connection that speaks directly to the soul.

Moments of Magic

Gloria isn't a therapy animal by training, but something more genuine happens in her paddock. Her presence offers a moment of unscripted connection that exists beyond carefully planned yoga sessions. There's a raw authenticity to her quiet companionship that speaks to something deeper than structured wellness experiences. Gloria doesn't perform or conform; she simply exists, inviting connection on her own terms. Her calm presence becomes a reminder that healing can be found in the most unexpected spaces - quiet, undemanding, and completely organic.

Gloria teaches us presence and acceptance.

Beyond Therapy: A Holistic Approach to Wellness

Gloria represents more than an animal. She's a living, breathing reminder that healing isn't always about perfection. It's about presence. About showing up. About being exactly who you are in this moment.

For women 35 and beyond, this message becomes crucial. We're at a stage of life where societal expectations often feel suffocating. What really matters is your breath, your presence, your inherent worth.

In our carefully curated wellness experience – with wild river dips, transformative yoga, and sound baths – Gloria might seem like a simple addition. But she's the heart of our retreat. She's proof that healing comes in the most unexpected packages.
